Jennifer serves up a little gratitude for a weekend off.

Ahh… the sweet life. Jennifer checks out the real estate scene (and gets in some riding) in Revelstoke, BC

A few weeks ago, I seized a rare opportunity in the life of a REALTOR® – a weekend off – and took a last-minute road trip/adventure with one of my favorite travel partners, little sis Hayley, to beautiful Revelstoke, BC. While I wouldn’t call myself an avid out-door winter sports enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination, I am always up for trying something different, going someplace new and getting a little fresh air.

A mere 2.5 hour drive from the Westside of Kelowna, including the obligatory Starbucks stop and car refueling, sis and I were on the slopes of one of the best hills I have ever had the pleasure of boarding. As a veteran of Big White, the concept of untouched, waist deep powder, in-bounds, mid-day, on a weekend is unfathomable, not so at Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR). Boasting the longest vertical, lift-serviced runs in North America (1,713 meters to be exact) and 1,263 hectares of lift accessed terrain, its easy to see why RMR is quickly becoming a “must visit” hill for ski and boarding enthusiasts world wide.

After our strenuous, solid half day on the hill comes one of  my favorite winter activities… apres ski and wine :) Located only 5 minutes from the hill is the cute & charming town of Revelstoke with numerous, local options for dining and entertainment. I must say I was impressed and found the selection of unique and non-franchised establishments refreshing with the closest Starbucks and Earls being all the way back in Vernon. Hayley and I are fortunate enough to be acquainted with a couple of Revelstoke locals who proved their worth as tour-guides for the evening.

On Sunday, before it was time to head home, we stopped in at the offices of one of Coldwell Banker Horizon Realty’s newest satellite offices – Revelstoke Premium Properties -  headed by Carl Rankin. Although still in its infancy when compared to other world-class resorts such as Whistler or Tahoe, given the recovering economy and limitless potential for Revelstoke as a four-seasons tourist playground, it seems only a matter of time before residential and vacation real estate takes off here. With a variety of real estate offerings from multi-million dollar chalets (complete with helicopter pads– obviously) to vacation condos, well underway along with a future 18 hole Nick Faldo designed golf course, it appears as though Revelstoke is stepping up to prove itself as a major player in the resort real-estate sector globally.

All in all, to say I was thoroughly impressed with what Revelstoke has to offer would be an understatement – I will be back. We truly do live in god’s country.

Back to work thought and it’s been a BUSY February (another understatement).  Stay tuned for my next blog – an update our newest site Elkridge in West Kelowna!
