Glenmore is one of Kelowna’s oldest and most established neighborhoods. It is situated between downtown and the Kelowna International Airport. Glenmore is an excellent place call home because of its diverse nature and established community atmosphere offering multiple recreation sites, schools, and easy access to amenities.
The Okanagan is known for its agricultural background, but all of this would have not been possible if it weren’t for the vision of several local businessmen who formed the Central Okanagan Lands Ltd. to buy and develop virtually all the lands within the Glenmore area in 1907. By 1911 Postill Lake was dammed and made into a reservoir to support the water demand for the 4000 acres of the Glenmore area. This now allowed for farmers to turn a once semi-arid land into fertile farming land. By the 1930’s the demand for a larger water supply grew and what is now known as the Glenmore Landfill was turned into a large storage basin for spring flood waters diverted from Mill Creek. Most of the land has now been converted into residential homes, but you will still find many orchards and gardens scattered around the outskirts of Glenmore.
Glenmore – meaning the great valley, starts near the Kelowna International airport and runs along the north side of highway 97 all the way to Kelowna’s downtown. Glenmore is divided into two regions, Glenmore and North Glenmore. North Glenmore is located west of the Dilworth Mountain area and north of Ivans road, where Glenmore is east of Gordon Drive and west of Spall and Dilworth Mountain. Each area is connected to Lake Okanagan and highway 97, which provides not only spectacular views but also convenient access. The Glenmore area is ideally located within a ten minute drive of Kelowna’s downtown, five minutes away from Orchard Park Mall, 15 minutes away from the Kelowna General Hospital, and 20 minutes away from the Kelowna International Airport.
