As a very proud Kettle Valley resident and Dad of two young children, I am so happy to see the opening of Little Owl Academy in the Village Centre.

Little Owl not only provides early learning, daycare and out of school care to our VERY under serviced neighborhood, but in combination with the new Mission House Coffee, we now have a great little mecca of activity to serve as a hub for our community.

I should disclose that the opening of Little Owl is a bit closer to my heart than just the fact that Jade is already happily attending.  Co-owner Naomi Miller has been our trusted caregiver (and now a very good friend) since the day my wife went back to work after having our son Jack nearly 6-years ago now.  My wife met Naomi back when we lived in Coquitlam, after answering an ad in the newspaper.  The rest is history as they say.  She has become an extension of the family especially for my kids – we all still refer to her as ‘Omi (the name Jack gave her when he was too little to say her name correctly).  So it’s really awesome to see her dream come to fruition.  Little Owl is everything you would want for your kids – bright, clean, fresh, full of energetic and happy teachers.  And now full of great kids.

The Mission Coffee House is another FANTASTIC and much need addition to the Kettle Valley neighborhood.  We have all been crabbing about the need for a coffee shop up here, and now we have one (so get out there and support it neighbors… Billie is the owner and she’s great).  What has been an unexpected surprise is that the selection of delicious fruity frozen yogurt and pastries has really turned the Coffee House into a great little meeting place for all ages!  My kids nag us daily to ‘go for a walk’ – which is code for going for a treat at the Coffee House.  Good times.

And congrats to Dr. Todd Webb (my wife’s chiropractor) who is moving his practice, Kettle Valley Family Chiropractic and settling into new digs!  I have it on good authority that Dr. Webb one of the best there is when it comes to what he does…

So, Kettle Valley living just got a whole lot better.
